Little River is one of the few rivers in the United States that flows for most of its length atop a mountain — and the result is one of the most breathtaking natural landscapes in the Southeast. Little River Canyon National Preserve protects over 15,000 acres of forested upland plateau and canyon terrain on Lookout Mountain in northeast Alabama.

Waterfalls, canyon rims, forested bluffs, natural pools, giant boulders, and sandstone cliffs offer stunning settings for hiking, swimming, kayaking, rock climbing, rappelling, and picnicking. The canyon is particularly beautiful in spring when wildflowers bloom along the rim, and in fall when the hardwood forest turns brilliant color.

Little River Canyon National Preserve is just minutes from Bear Creek Log Cabins — one of the main reasons guests return year after year to our cabins on Lookout Mountain.
