Cabin One is a genuine, hand-hewn log cabin that lets guests experience what it was like to stay in an 1850s frontier home — while still enjoying every modern comfort. Nestled on the Galloway family’s secluded farm atop Lookout Mountain near Fort Payne, Alabama, the one-bedroom cabin sleeps up to five guests with a king-size bed in the loft, a queen-size pull-out sofa, and an additional sofa in the living room. Towels and linens are always provided.

Step through the front door and you’re greeted by exposed log walls, rustic antiques, and handcrafted furniture that radiate genuine old-world charm. Cabin One’s biggest draw is its authenticity — each log and beam dates back more than a century, yet the cabin has been lovingly restored with every modern amenity. A soothing private five-person hot tub sits just outside the cabin, and a private campfire pit provides a favorite place to tell stories and stargaze. Inside, the rock fireplace with gas logs adds both warmth and ambience on cool mountain evenings.

The fully equipped kitchen includes dishes, utensils, pots, pans, a coffee maker, microwave, and toaster — everything you need to cook your own meals and enjoy the cabin at your own pace. An air conditioner keeps the cabin comfortable in summer, and cable TV are available throughout your stay.

Outside on the porch, morning coffee tastes better while listening to birdsong and watching the farm animals wander the pastures. Unlike crowded resorts, Bear Creek cabins are scattered across a large private farm — you won’t see a neighboring cabin from your porch. You’re free to roam the pastures, feed the friendly goats and cows, drop a line in our private 3-acre fishing pond, or explore the beautiful rock formations right on the property.

Because Randy and Sandy Galloway live on the property, you always have someone nearby if you need anything — yet they respect your privacy completely. Book direct with owner Sandy Galloway at 256-997-7939 or bearcreeklogcabins@gmail.com — no Airbnb fees, no VRBO fees, ever.

Guests Love Cabin One

  • ““A great place to get away from life's distractions.” My wife and I took a few days to ourselves after 10 years of marriage and 3 kids. We use to own a log cabin and my wife was enamored with the idea of staying in a cabin. We stayed in Cabin IV, which was originally constructed in the mid 1800s. Little River Canyon is only about a hundred yards from Cabins 1, 2, and 3. We wanted to relax and that's what we did. Randy & Sandy were great, I'd recommend this to anyone who'd like to stay in a rustic cabin with a great feel. We will stay their again and I'd recommend it to anyone who'd just like to sit back and relax. Your less than 15 minutes from town and their are so many outdoor activities that you can enjoy in the area. My wife and I drove 25 minutes and did a horse back ride to Desoto Falls, we toured the canyon, bought hand crafted pottery at Miracle Pottery. The most relaxing time I've had in a while.”

  • ““A beautiful throw back in time” This place is amazing!! Romantic! Takes u back to simple days with the extras from today. Cozy and perfect cabins. It's off the beaten path surrounded by thick brush and trees. Very quiet and calm. Love this place!! ”

    Lynn Loescher
  • “"Will Go Back" The cabins were clean and easy to find. Far enough away from each other for privacy. Close to town and to the Little River Canyon Parkway. Full kitchen, grill, fire pit, hot tub. Tiny TV, but then we didn't go up there to watch tv anyway. Owners were close enough to call if needed but left you to yourselves. ”

  • “You will want to come back year after year! My husband and 4 of our children stayed in the three bedroom cabin at Thanksgiving four years ago. There are so many things to enjoy right there. We played on the huge outcroppings of rocks and watched the friendly, yet shy goats in the large fenced-in area behind the owners' home. We also hiked from our cabin down into Little River Canyon Preserve. We wondered around the cow pastures. We enjoyed the cabin's fire pit and hot tub. We could have fished in the owner's pond but didn't bring tackle. They have 5 hand-hewn cabins from the late1800's and also a lodge. All the cabins are within eye shot of the owners' home, but still feel private and secluded. We have been back every Thanksgiving since our first visit in 2009. Every cabin we've stayed in has been clean, neat, tidy, well-stocked, and very comfortable. The pictures don't do the place justice! It is beautiful! And each year we bring more and more of our family! Last year, we rented the lodge and 2 cabins and hosted 34 extended family members, ranging in ages from less than a year old to 81 years old. It was fantastic, and everyone loved it!! (Most of our family lives less than 2 hours away, so several just came to spend the day on Thanksgiving.) The cabins are gorgeous! The scenery and countryside are breath-taking! The owners are some of the MOST wonderful, sincere, friendly, helpful, and thoughtful people you will EVER meet!! We look forward to visiting with them each year just as much, if not more than, our family vacation! Our whole, big family is really looking forward to Thanksgiving again this fall at Bear Creek Cabins! Some of us are so excited, we wish November would hurry up and get here! You will not go wrong vacationing at Bear Creek Cabins, I promise!”

  • ““A slice of Heaven” We stayed in Cabin 1 for our 27th anniversary. It was perfect. The cabin comfortably sleeps two but can accommodate more. The hot tub was a bonus. The countryside was just beautiful. We spent much of our week outdoors, coffee on the back porch, hiking or hanging out in the hot tub. The property of homeowners Sandy and Randy was more than we were expecting, with cows, goats, rocks and a fishing pond. You were more than welcome to wander their property. I would choose this cabin again for the two of us. ”

  • “"Welcoming, peaceful cabin" My boyfriend and I stayed here over an extended Labor Day weekend. The proprietor was very responsive to my emails before we left and met us when we arrived. We stayed in Cabin 4, although it looked like you couldn't choose a bad cabin! The cabin had all the things you would need to make it your home, including linens, pots/pans, silverware, etc. The hot tub on the back porch was wonderful. The grounds were ours to roam and included goats, rocks to climb, and a pond. It was quite warm when we were there, but the A/C kept it cool inside the cabin. Overall, very enjoyable and we wished we had stayed longer!! ”

  • “My husband and I decided to get away for the weekend, just the two of us and we had never been to these cabins before. This was a surprise for me because I had no idea where we were going. It was so romantic and was just what I wanted to stay in. It was secluded for optimum privacy yet close enough to the property owners if there was a problem, which there wasn't. Everything was great and I felt so at home there. We will definitely be going back!”

  • ““Bear Creek” Great place for getaway. Motorcycle friendly. Very clean and picturesque grounds. Cabin was rustic and very clean. Convenient to Little River Canyon. Will definitely revisit on occasion!! ”

    Anne Smith, Miami, FL
  • “We had a wonderful time!! The owners are great Christian people who do a great job maintaining the property and the cabins. One of the greatest vacations we have ever had as a family.....we will be back next year!!!”

    Melissa Deese
  • “This is a fantastic family owned operation. These are simply good people living a dream. My wife and I have been visiting Bear Creek Cabins for 3 years and have never been disappointed.”

  • “ If you're looking for a great getaway weekend then this is your place. We have been coming here for about 11 years and look forward to coming every time. The owners are so nice and down to earth and hand built all the cabins. Try it out you will love it guaranteed!!!”

  • “"Great Place to Stay" My husband and I and two daughters 10 and 11 stayed here in October. This is such a peaceful place. It was a great location to both Desoto Falls and Little River Canyon or back to town for supplies or dinner. Our daughters loved the goats. The cabin was just lovely, simplistic but with all the nice amenities you look for when away from home. The mattresses were comfy and we all slept like logs. It was a nice three night relaxing trip we all needed. Plus the hot tub. It also had an area for a fire pit and wood already there for the fire. We would indeed return. We stayed in cabin#2. Oh, and Sandy one of the owners was just great. ”

  • ““Honeymoon Bliss” My husband and I chose this place as our honeymoon destination... Simply perfect! It had everything we needed and more. The couple that own and operate are so sweet and down to earth. We asked about things to do while we were here and couldn't have been more pleased with the places they sent us. True Adventure Sports was right down the road and we were welcomed by the owner there as well. We rented a canoe (very reasonably I might add) and spent our days fishing in lil hideaways and even managed to find a secluded waterfall! Antiques galore all around and Butterbeans was FANTASTIC! Overall best vacation we've ever had and plan to take the kids next time. Couldn't have been more pleased with Bear Creek Cabins and the hospitality we were shown by the owners and local community! ”

  • ““Wonderful authentic log cabin” We stayed for 2 weeks and had a wonderful time. The cabin was an authentic log cabin and we felt right at home. Our pets were able to accompany us and enjoyed walking the grounds and barking at the goats and cows. Cabin is close to the Little River Canyon for some sight seeing. Would recommend these cabins to anyone looking for a get away. ”

  • ““Amazing experience!” My husband and I went there last year for our anniversary. Neither of us had ever been to the Ft. Payne area, but have now reserved the weekend for our next anniversary. Owners were awesome--helpful but stayed out of the way. We had free reign of the great fishing in their pond, beautiful scenery, and the CABIN!!!! Like stepping back in time (but still enjoying modern conveniences like power, water, heat, and air!) This was a great long-weekend-getaway. We will go back many times!!! ”
